Scalp Treatment for Dry Scalp
First you must determine if your scalp is dry or if you have dandruff, or a possible scalp disorder. Here a description of the difference between the two.
DANDRUFF
For people with dandruff, skin cells may mature and be shed in 2–7 days, as opposed to around a month in people without dandruff. The result is that dead skin cells are shed in large, oily clumps, which appear as white or grayish patches on the scalp, skin and clothes.
DRY SCALP
An alternation in temperature or humidity causes dry scalp. For instance, in the winter when the heater is on, the scalp is exposed to a drier environment and the result is peeling and flaking.
Here are some treatment options:
DANDRUFF
Anti-dandruff shampoos use a combination of ingredients to control dandruff. Salicylic acid (used in Sebulex) removes dead skin cells from the scalp and decrease the rate at which these cells are created. Zinc pyrithione kills pityrospora (the fungus responsible for dandruff). Selenium sulfide or Ketoconazole achieves the results of both salicylic acid and zinc pyrithione.
DRY SCALP
You will need:
Denmin Brush
Application Brush
Tea tree oil (3-4 drops)
Aloe Vera (one tea spoon)
Almond oil (one tea spoon)
Clarifying or Cleansing Shampoo (1/4 cup)
*Mix all ingredients together
First brush scalp thoroughly with brush, to remove build-up. Section hair into four and apply scalp-mixture with your application brush. Take 1/4 inch sub sections. Place a cap over your hair. Sit under the dryer for 15-20 minutes. Wet hair, shampoo with mixture. Then use a moisturizing shampoo. Follow up with a conditioner and leave-in before blow drying or wet setting hair. Use almond oil directly on scalp, very little (massage into scalp). Style as you desire. Your scalp should feel rejuvenated!

Ombré Hair Technique
The best way to achieve this look is to apply darker hair color from root to mid shaft (hair), then use lightner (bleach) or lighter tone hair color on ends. Apply with a color application brush or tooth brush being sure to use uneven strokes. This will ensure the color will have a nice blended affect versus showing a line of demarcation.
If done at home, you can use a box color kit, but I highly recommend to have a professional perform this service.
This is how to achieve the Ombré hair technique.

Natural Hair tutorial
The healthiest hair is free of any chemicals. Does this mean you can not have healthy hair if it's chemically treated ? No, it just means you have to take extra precaution with the preparation, process, and post treatment of your hair. It is also best that you seek a professional to perform these services to ensure it is administered properly. Stay away from box hair color and using two types of chemical processes. Ex: relaxer and and color. Over time this can cause extreme damage to the hair, sometimes immediately depending on the strength of each product being used. If you are performing these procedures at home, read the manufactures directions on how to use product, as well as the safety precaution.
Another hair process that can potentially damage you natural hair is straightening. Yes, this includes flat ironing, pressing, and curling your hair. It is possible for your hair strands to completely reform from coiled to straight without returning back. This heat damage can cause shedding and breakage.
It is important to keep these things in mind when caring for your Natural hair. Please read my Blog "Natural Hair Care Tips"

Natural Hair Care Tips
Hair Tips:
-keep a healthy diet, consisting of h2o and lots of vegetables (refer to my blog "Your hair and skin is a reflection of your diet".
-take vitamins, multi vitamin and include biotin or hair and nail supplement (check with Dr.)
-use natural oils such as, jojoba oil, olive oil, carrot oil, almond oil, hemp oil etc. You may add them to your conditioner for extra moisture. Use on hair and scalp as needed.
-trim your ends, this does not make your hair grow. It only ensures that you will not have split ends that splits up the hair shaft, creating more damage. Your ends should be trimmed every 6-8 weeks. If you are using a chemical process, every time you chemically treat your hair.
-use a cleansing and moisturizing shampoo. Cleansing or clarifying shampoos are used to remove any dirt or build up present on your hair. Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to replenish hair. You have to put back in what was taken out of the hair.
-always condition your hair after shampooing. Use moisturizing and/or protein conditioner based on your hair's need.
-Deep condition your hair weekly or bi-weekly. For deeper penetration place a plastic cap with steamed towel or sit under dryer. Treatments should last at least 15 minutes and up to 1hr. Unless directions say otherwise.
-when styling hair avoid too much tension (used in braiding or setting), minimize the use of heat (no more than once a week in between shampoos).
-properly detangle your hair by using a wide tooth comb. Starting I the back of the head at the nape area. From the ends of the hair to the root. Be gentle when combing.
-also avoid the over use of hair ties, rubber bands, hair clips, and bobby pins. Always remove at the end of day.
-tie your hair every night with a satin or silk scarf or sleep on a satin or silk pillow case. Cotton absorbs moisture which can potentially break your hair.
This concludes your hair tips for maintaining healthy natural hair. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them here or visit my website.

Home Hair Remedies?!?...
Ok... so as a stylist I am always concerned about the health of my clients hair. With that being said. How does one expect to have healthy long hair if they (1) do not follow their stylist recommendations and instead do their own HOME REMEDIES... Do you apply your own relaxer and/or color? Do you do your own weaves? And God forbid, do you cut your own hair? These are all no-no's in my book if you are not a licensed professional.
Case and Point:
A client of mine we will call her "Sue." Well, I have known Sue since I was a young girl and can clearly remember her having long beautiful hair. About a year ago she found out I was in a salon conveniently near her and decided to try me out. Keep in mind I hadn't seen her since I was young. Well she came into the salon and immediately I noticed their was a huge difference in her hair; it was broken off. Basically she needed a deep conditioning as well as a good cut to get the dead ends off. Very important when you are looking to grow your hair! So she absolutely loved her hair, it wasn't fully back but it was a big difference. I advised her that she would need to come in at least once a month for conditioning treatments and every 2 months for a trim. Well she didn't do either. Instead she went back to old ways and did her HOME REMEDY.
Needless to say when she got back in my chair about 3 weeks ago her hair was worse than the first time, but NOW she's ready to listen. Luckily it wasn't too late I was able to once again give her a good cut and style and she is now back on her way to healthy long hair. This time, instead of saying "ok girl imma call you to make my next appointment," which rarely happens, "Sue" scheduled before she left the salon. I am happy to say I did her hair a few days ago and there's already improvement. Her hair has a natural shine and the integrity is coming back.
If you have a great stylist that advises you about your hair, listen! The results can be promising. We didn't attend 1600 hours of school for nothing. If you do not have a great stylist, I welcome you to schedule a hair consultation. I will fully anaylize your hair and advise you on what I think is best.
Hair Tip:
If you suffer from dry hair, it may be dehydrated which means you need a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner - and guess what - you also need to drink more water. Our hair not only reflects what we put on it but also what we put in our body. "What we put in our body comes out in our hair." I recommend Madrids Luxurious Shampoo and Conditioner: enriched with Vitamin B5 and Vitaman E you'll notice a difference right away!

Your Skin and Hair is a Reflection of your Diet
MEN you all are so fly right. You go to the barber get a hair cut, lined or faded, and trim your beard. Get some new shoes, spray that good ol' Kenneth Cole or IAM KING and you are winning, right. Nine times out of ten your routine consist of bathing of course and whatever soap you use on your body tends to be the soap you use on your face and hair. Unless you saw Diddy's Pro Active commercial you might have implemented that into your skin regimen. Oh and lets not forget the Head and Shoulders. Is this all wrong NO, but its definitely not all right. If you are a bachelor, college student, or just on the grind (legal of course) smile. Its easy to go to a fast food joint, burrito truck, pick up a soda, donuts, chips etc. whatever fills your stomach. Yes you are saving money and we all know its a recession, however you are not preserving your fly or sexy or whatever you want to call it. Lets put it this way if you implemented a few good changes in your diet not only will you feel better, God forbid you will actually even look better! Take notes I have a few tips at the end of this article.
WOMEN we have it so good. I mean we come in all shapes and sizes with so many skin complexions and unique features. Like someone I know says we are "sexy and delicious"...lol At least we should all feel that way. Lets discover some of our patterns. So if we don't have a little sister, cousin, or friend braiding our hair, we have wigs, or if we can afford to we live in the salon at least two to three times a month, if you are a weave client maybe once a month for touch ups. Nails and Feet done, individual or strip lashes if needed or if we just want an extra "pop", must have the brows arched to perfection, and for the most part we know how to apply both daytime and evening make-up especially if our careers are conscious of our image. So plane and simple "we have to have it together". Realizing we are single parents, working one or two jobs if your blessed, have husbands or boyfriends that act like husbands (let me stop), and if we are not the productive type we still have to look good cause we want Ray Ray or Todd to buy us a drink on Friday night. At the end of the day when we take off the wigs, press on nails, make-up, and lashes is our SKIN and HAIR healthy. If not I have few tips of what to implement in your diet which will promote a healthy scalp, growth of hair, and clear moisturized skin.
Know this fact: "No product you can buy in the store will ever be able to make you have better hair and skin without first making changes from within."

What to Avoid?

STRESS - can lead to hair loss, weight gain or loss (either one is unhealthy), and even diseases
I hope this information has been helpful to you. Of course once you have established this you may then consult a professional on what's the best products to use on your skin and hair.
SKIN TIPS I use Cetaphil over the counter but Dr.'s recommend due to the low percentage of chemicals, very sensitive; and Witch Hazel Astringent (keep the pores clean), a daily spf15 moisturizer.
HAIR TIPS I use Design Essentials Theraputics for dry, itchy scalp clients, Madrids Luxurious Shampoo and Conditioner for Moisture with a couple of drops of botanical oil also by Design Essentials. These products are for both Men and Women. Men can also use botanical oil for their beard after they shave as well as on scalp ( will not appear greasy, but give a nice subtle shine). Women I also recommend botanical oil for your scalp and hair this is important if your hair is chemically treated, natural, or in braids. You can purchase these products online @ www.auriellesimagingstudio, www.designessentials.com , www.madridinternation.com. Also try Aveda Dry Remedy, the entire system is awesome and will work wonders for your hair. Aveda has many salons and stores across the states.
