Natural Hair Care Tips
Hair Tips:
-keep a healthy diet, consisting of h2o and lots of vegetables (refer to my blog "Your hair and skin is a reflection of your diet".
-take vitamins, multi vitamin and include biotin or hair and nail supplement (check with Dr.)
-use natural oils such as, jojoba oil, olive oil, carrot oil, almond oil, hemp oil etc. You may add them to your conditioner for extra moisture. Use on hair and scalp as needed.
-trim your ends, this does not make your hair grow. It only ensures that you will not have split ends that splits up the hair shaft, creating more damage. Your ends should be trimmed every 6-8 weeks. If you are using a chemical process, every time you chemically treat your hair.
-use a cleansing and moisturizing shampoo. Cleansing or clarifying shampoos are used to remove any dirt or build up present on your hair. Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to replenish hair. You have to put back in what was taken out of the hair.
-always condition your hair after shampooing. Use moisturizing and/or protein conditioner based on your hair's need.
-Deep condition your hair weekly or bi-weekly. For deeper penetration place a plastic cap with steamed towel or sit under dryer. Treatments should last at least 15 minutes and up to 1hr. Unless directions say otherwise.
-when styling hair avoid too much tension (used in braiding or setting), minimize the use of heat (no more than once a week in between shampoos).
-properly detangle your hair by using a wide tooth comb. Starting I the back of the head at the nape area. From the ends of the hair to the root. Be gentle when combing.
-also avoid the over use of hair ties, rubber bands, hair clips, and bobby pins. Always remove at the end of day.
-tie your hair every night with a satin or silk scarf or sleep on a satin or silk pillow case. Cotton absorbs moisture which can potentially break your hair.
This concludes your hair tips for maintaining healthy natural hair. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave them here or visit my website.
